Our courses for 2010 continue to run from three great Purbeck locations - Holton Lee, Durlston Castle and Kimmeridge. These are wonderful sites with much to offer the aspiring photographer, both in subject matter and in opportunities to practice technical skills. We offer a programme of workshops and short courses throughout the year and usually fit in one or two last minute sessions - and if our planned dates don't suit you we might be able to organise something for a day that does....

AprilThe April workshops planned for the 11th and the weekend of the 17th/18th have been postponed - with some regret, given the weather forecast. But this long winter has delayed the growth of the orchids and other sping flowers we wanted to photograph, and after 2 days of looking we have found no trace of anything above the surface. There is only so much grass one can photograph...We are looking to run a close up/wild flower workshop on either the 1st or the 8th of May - do get in touch if you are interested! MaySunday 2nd May 2010: Tyneham Bay. An exploration of this jewel of the Purbeck coast. You may know it for the abandoned village and target-practice tanks, but the views along the coast from the top of Worbarrow Tout are stunning. If the tide permits, the chalk rocks at the western end of the beach have a sculptural quality that looks great in black and white...Saturday 8th May 2010: Kimmeridge - Introduction to Digital SLR I. The autumn colours in 2009 lasted well into early December, so watch this space. With access at most sites to classroom as well as practical working space, we are able to accommodate all levels of photographic student - from the absolute beginner to advanced amateur and semi-professional. Courses are aimed at digital camera users, but our tutors work extensively with film too: we are very happy for you to bring film or digital cameras but please note we have no facilities for developing and processing on site. Our courses and workshops usually have a maximum class size of 12, with one tutor to up to four participants. Unless otherwise stated, a typical programme starts with coffee and welcome from 9.00am, ready for a 9.30 start. We stop for lunch at around 1pm, and sometimes manage to squeeze in a coffee break in morning and afternoon. Planned finish time is 5.30. Kimmeridge is slightly shorter - the centre is only open from 10am to 5pm, but we often carry on shooting after everything has been packed away. We do also sometimes put on workshops and sessions at short notice if the light is right - subscribe to Purbeck Light's newsletter to keep in touch! Please email for more details about courses or to book your place. Remember - we are happy to organise workshops for small groups, or even 1:1 tuition. If our planned dates don't suit you we might be able to organise something for a day that does.... |
