Purbeck Light is exploring new course venues to make the most of this fabulous area, both along the Jurassic coast and far beyond - but for now we use the following popular locations. Much of our time is spent of course out taking photographs, but we always have a base for initial theory sessions, and to review work at the end of the day - unless otherwise shown.Holton LeeBased at the purpose built artist studios at Holton Lee - an Arts, Environment and Disability charity just outside Wareham, with access to their 350 acre estate of meadow, woodland and heath which runs down to the edge of Poole Harbour.[details] KimmeridgeCourses run from Dorset Wildlife Trust's visitor centre, right on the foreshore with easy access from the car park.[details] Durlston Country ParkOn the cliffs just to the west of Swanage, Durlston has orchid meadows and sea bird rich cliffs to tempt landscape and wildlife photographer alike. Durlston Castle is in mid-renovation and rebuild, but we will have access to some classroom time in the Visitor Centre to open and close each day.Corfe CastleThis iconic monument surely needs no introduction, dominating as it still does the only road through the great ridge that separates Purbeck from the 'mainland'. Courses here are practical sessions in landscape photography, with no classroom time.StudlandA range of habitats make this spit of land ideal for macro workshops, photographing sundews and other plant species. Courses here are practical, with no classroom time.New for 2010Badbury RingsOur first venture outside Purbeck! This Iron Age hill fort near Wimborne has dominated the landscape since 800BC. Apart from the place itself, the day will concentrate on photographing orchids, then moving on to look for bluebells nearby. A practical session, with no classroom time.TynehamThis deserted village is one of the gems of the Purbeck coast. As well as the remains of houses and farms, we shall explore Tyneham Bay, with stunning views along the coast in either direction. If the tide permits, the chalk boulders at the western end of the beach have a sculptural quality. We shall return to this valley - the ridges on either side also grant spectacular views for those who are prepared to climb them.... |
